How to Embrace Change: Ash Parrott Celebrates 10 Years at Simpro

January 31, 2020

Ash Parrott has seen a lot in his ten years at Simpro. After taking a gamble to call Simpro Co-Founder Steve Bradshaw and ask for a job way back in 2010, he had no idea that he would still be working at the company a decade later. Or that he would have worked his way into the position of Business Development Manager.

We caught up with Ash to chat about his decade with the company and what he thinks has helped him reach a decade.

Your title is Business Development Manager, what is your day-to-day like at Simpro?

“At Simpro, we really believe in getting out onsite to meet our customers and see if our product will work for them, so I spend my time on site. I look after new business for Queensland and South Australia so every day is different because I work with so many different people!

It’s probably the best part of my job, meeting with prospective clients to evaluate their current systems and workflows and then demonstrate how Simpro can assist their business to help them become more efficient. It also keeps me very busy.”

Do you have a favourite story from your decade with Simpro?

Business Development Manager Ash Parrott and some simPEEPS celebrate his 10 year anniversary with cake.

“I have collected a lot of stories over my time here but an absolute stand out in my memory is the time I was offered a large pile of cash by a prospective customer.

I went out to look at their operation and after the meeting, the prospect was so keen to start the implementation process that they wanted to pay cash on the spot! That was definitely a first!”

What is one thing that has changed the most in your time here?

“The obvious answer for me is our people. In the ten years since I joined we have grown from quite a small team (of under 30 staff) to over 300 people. That’s massive but we still have quite a few of the ‘old simPEEPs’ hanging around, like myself, which is pretty cool.

The other thing that has really changed is our product. Honestly, Simpro is unrecognisable to what it was 10 years ago. Which is a good thing! It is a credit to our great team, always pushing forward with the product and delivering the market-leading solution.”

What is the best ‘work perk’ at Simpro?

“For me, it would have to be when our team gets together twice a year. We are on the road a lot and when all team members from around the country get into a room together it’s absolutely brilliant. Not only do we get a chance to learn about new things going on in the product and the business, but we get to bond and socialise as a team!”

10 years is a great milestone, how do you feel about reaching this anniversary?

“I am honoured to have reached the 10-year milestone with Simpro. I have grown so much as an individual and so has as the company, I feel very proud that I have been a part of it!”

What piece of advice has helped you the most over your 10 years?

“Always embrace change. The world we work in is always evolving and you need to be ready to adapt and embrace change otherwise you get left behind.”
