simPRO Update: Extra reporting power and preventing accidental pre-build edits

Product Update | 2 minute read

The simPRO release rolling out from May 19, enhances the free Report Builder tool with extra tables, columns and help options. We’ve also added safeguards to prevent accidental pre-build edits - one of the biggest ideas from our customer Ideas Portal.

More tables, columns and help options for free Report Builder

Our free Report Builder, launched late last year, provides greater access to, and visibility of, your business data. And it is getting some extra enhancements in this release.

Report Builder DashboardTo begin, there are 6 new tables available within Report Builder:

  • Items purchased,

  • Recurring invoices,

  • Recurring invoice cost centres,

  • Recurring jobs,

  • Recurring job cost centres, and

  • Job assets

A number of existing Report Builder tables will receive additional columns (you can find the full list in the Release Notes). And the Pass column on the Asset table is changing to Result - which will show "Pass", "Fail" or "No test" if there was no test completed.

simPRO’s popular Walkme feature will now also be available throughout Report Builder to help users make the most of this powerful reporting tool.

Safeguarding against accidental Pre-build edits

A top suggestion from the simPRO Customer Ideas Portal

simPRO Pre-builds are lists of materials and labour grouped as a single billable item. They speed up quoting, invoicing and job creation. And many simPRO clients set up their Customer Portals with pre-builds.

simPRO allows users* to adjust a pre-build for a specific job or project. However, sometimes users edit the main pre-build by accident.

This release will provide clearer guidance for users, making accidental pre-build edits a thing of the past.

When opening a pre-build on a project, simPRO will now open a read-only version with two clear edit options. It is easier for the user to identify if they are editing the main pre-build, or editing it on a project.

As an added precaution when editing the Main pre-build, simPRO will display a warning to make it obvious to users they are not editing a copy.

*User must have access to edit quotes/jobs/take off templates to edit pre-builds.

Improvements and Enhancements

With every release, there are slight improvements in addition to the main features. But they do offer a number of benefits to simPRO users. You can read the outline of all the enhancements made in the dedicated release notes in our helpguide. You can find this by clicking here.
